Northwest Wado-Ryu Karate Earns 23 Medals, Two Grand Champion Titles at Franco Cup

MOSCOW, ID — Northwest Wado-Ryu Karate athletes brought home 23 medals and two grand champion titles during competition at the Franco Cup, showcasing what team leaders described as a strong performance for the Moscow-based program.

Team captains Hayden Schwartz and George De Leon each earned grand champion honors in kumite divisions. Schwartz won the adult kumite grand champion title, while De Leon captured the junior kumite grand champion title.

Overall, the team earned two grand champion titles, five gold medals, seven silver medals and nine bronze medals.

Individual results included:

* Hayden Schwartz: bronze in kobudo, bronze in kata, gold in kumite and adult grand champion
* Steve: silver in kobudo and bronze in kumite
* George De Leon: bronze in kobudo, bronze in kata, gold in kumite and junior grand champion
* Fallon: silver in kata and gold in kumite
* Chetana: bronze in kata and gold in kumite
* Dmitri: two silver medals in kata and gold in kumite
* Steven: bronze in kata and silver in kumite
* Mike: silver in kata and silver in kumite
* Ben: bronze in kumite
* Sean: bronze in kata

According to the team, the results reflect the continued competitive strength of Northwest Wado-Ryu Karate’s training program in Moscow. Two athletes are now preparing to compete on the world stage in Romania, with the Franco Cup serving as an important event in the team’s ongoing season.
