LEWISTON, ID — The Idaho Transportation Department has closed the Lower Lewiston Port of Entry for construction as crews begin work on a new facility designed to improve services for commercial drivers.
According to ITD, the Lower Lewiston Port of Entry, located about one mile east of Lewiston at the junction of U.S. Highway 12 and U.S. Highway 95, is expected to remain closed until early next year. An exact reopening date has not yet been announced.
Port of Entry program manager Frank DeCarvalho said the redesigned facility will improve access to commercial vehicle services, including registration and permit requests, while also adding public restroom access.
During construction, the Lewiston Hill Port of Entry, located seven miles north of Lewiston on U.S. Highway 95, will remain open. Commercial vehicle operators are encouraged to schedule registration and permit appointments online. Inspection-related questions can be directed to the Lewiston Hill Port of Entry at (208) 799-4824.

Idaho’s ports of entry serve as weigh stations and inspection points for commercial vehicles traveling on major highways throughout the state. ITD says the facilities help ensure trucks are properly permitted, registered and operating safely to protect motorists and the traveling public.
