ST. MARIES, ID — Two people from Potlatch were killed Friday night after a side-by-side vehicle crashed into a river near St. Maries, according to the Idaho State Police.
ISP said the crash happened around 9:25 p.m. Friday near the 9000 block of Railroad Grade Road in Benewah County. Investigators said a 52-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were traveling in a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Sport when the vehicle went off the roadway, down an embankment and into the river.
Both occupants, who were from Potlatch, were not wearing seat belts and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP.
The roadway was blocked for about 4.5 hours while emergency crews responded.
The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Benewah County Sheriff’s Office and Benewah County EMS assisted at the scene.
