LEWISTON, ID — A Lewiston man is facing a felony charge after police say he allegedly threatened and intimidated a neighbor during a disturbance at a local motel.
According to court documents, David C. Helm, 55, was arrested on January 19 after officers responded to a reported dispute at the El Rancho Motel on 3rd Avenue North.
Police say a caller reported Helm was allegedly throwing items, including a child’s scooter, from a second-floor balcony. Officers reported finding debris in the parking area below the unit, including a scooter.
While officers were speaking with the complainant, Helm came onto the balcony and told officers he was cleaning and denied throwing items. Police say Helm later became upset, leaned over the railing toward the complainant, and shouted profanities.
According to the affidavit, Helm allegedly made statements referencing a gun during the encounter, which officers interpreted as threatening in context. Police say Helm then began moving toward the stairway as if to confront the complainant.
Officers intervened and detained Helm before a physical confrontation occurred.
According to police, Helm’s alleged conduct and statements made in their presence formed the basis for the felony charge.
Helm faces a felony charge of witness intimidation in connection with the incident.
