LEWISTON, ID — A local advocacy group is planning a May Day protest in Lewiston as part of a nationwide day of action.
According to a press release from LC Valley Indivisible, community members are invited to gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, on the sidewalk outside the Nez Perce County Courthouse.
Organizers say the event is part of the “May Day Strong” National Day of Action, which includes demonstrations taking place across the country. The Lewiston gathering will center on workers, students, and families, with a local theme of “Our Money Is Our Power.”
According to the release, the national day of action is focused on economic issues, including wages, cost of living, and what organizers describe as the influence of wealthy individuals and corporations on government policy.
Participants are asked to take part in a peaceful demonstration and to commit to nonviolent action, according to the release.
The Lewiston event is one of numerous May Day-related gatherings expected nationwide on May 1.
