MOSCOW, ID — Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories has begun site preparation for a new 250,000-square-foot electronic device manufacturing facility on its Schwartz Campus in Moscow, according to a company press release.

The $50 million project will be built south of SEL’s printed circuit board factory and is expected to significantly expand the company’s manufacturing capacity.

Local contractor Motley-Motley has been selected to complete early site work, which is now underway. SEL is working with Bernardo Wills Architects of Spokane on the building design. Construction is expected to begin early this summer, with completion projected for late 2027.

The new facility will expand electronic device manufacturing operations as the company works to meet global demand for products used to protect, monitor and control critical infrastructure, including electric power systems . SEL currently operates electronic device factories in Pullman, Washington; Lewiston, Idaho; West Lafayette, Indiana; and Lake Zurich, Illinois.

SEL President Dave Whitehead said the investment reflects the company’s continued commitment to Idaho and the surrounding region. Hiring will occur in phases as manufacturing lines come online beginning in summer 2027. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to employ approximately 1,000 people .
