Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Among Sites Hiring as Forest Service Seeks 2,000 Summer Workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Forest Service plans to hire up to 2,000 seasonal employees for the 2026 summer recreation season, according to a news release.

The positions are intended to support active forest management and improve visitor access and services at national forests and grasslands. Seasonal workers assist with keeping campgrounds and facilities clean, maintaining open access to public lands, and supporting nearby rural communities.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the agency has addressed prior salary deficits and is now positioned to fill critical seasonal roles. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz said the seasonal hires are essential to delivering services visitors rely on and noted the agency has streamlined its hiring process to allow employees to begin work earlier.

In north-central Idaho, the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests are also hiring seasonal employees for the upcoming recreation season and encouraging local residents to apply. Officials said seasonal workers help keep campgrounds, trails, and recreation sites open, safe, and welcoming for visitors.

Forest Supervisor Jon Word said the positions offer hands-on experience and a chance to support public lands close to home. The forests are recruiting for a variety of roles, including trail maintenance, visitor services, and range technicians.

The seasonal hiring is in addition to fire-related seasonal positions already underway. Interested applicants must apply through USAJOBS.gov. Application deadlines, qualifications, and start dates vary by position.
