LEWISTON, ID – Newly unsealed court documents say a Nez Perce County grand jury indicted 48-year-old Matthew K. Hosking on one felony count of lewd conduct with a child under sixteen.
According to the indictment, the alleged offense occurred between April 1 and May 31 of 2013 and involved a minor who was 5 years old at the time. The indictment alleges Hosking had manual-to-genital and/or oral-to-genital contact with the child.
An indictment is a formal criminal charge issued by a grand jury after reviewing evidence presented by prosecutors. It determines that probable cause exists to proceed with a criminal case but does not determine guilt.
Hosking was arrested February 18 in Lewiston and made his initial court appearance the following day. Prosecutors asked that bail be set at $1 million, citing the seriousness of the charge, Hosking’s previous law enforcement experience, and concerns he could leave the country because he reportedly had travel plans to Mexico. Judge Karin Seubert set bond at $500,000. Hosking has since posted bond and been released.
Court documents state the alleged victim reported the accusations to law enforcement on December 11, 2025. Investigators say Hosking denied the allegations and claimed they were fabricated.
Prosecutors have also said that eight alleged victims have come forward with accusations of sexual abuse during the investigation. However, only one charge has been formally filed.
Under Idaho law, lewd conduct with a child under sixteen is punishable by up to life in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
The case remains under investigation.
