Woman Arrested After Alleged Attempt to Smuggle Contraband into Clearwater County Jail

OROFINO, ID — A woman was arrested March 5 following an investigation into the alleged introduction of contraband into the Clearwater County Jail, according to the Nez Perce Tribal Police Department.

Officers and detectives with the department responded to the case after the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office intercepted recorded jail phone calls between Nicole Two Moons and an inmate. Investigators reported the conversations allegedly outlined a plan to smuggle contraband into the facility.

Deputies conducted surveillance near the jail and observed activity they said was consistent with the monitored communications. During the investigation, officers located items that had reportedly been thrown over a secured fence line near the jail.

Authorities said the recovered items included tobacco products and written correspondence intended for an inmate.

During a later vehicle search connected to the investigation, officers also reportedly discovered controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. According to police, substances seized during the search later tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.

Two Moons was taken into custody on a charge of introduction of contraband into a correctional facility under Nez Perce Tribal Code 4.60.026, along with additional related charges. She was transported to and booked into the Clearwater County Jail.

The Nez Perce Tribal Police Department credited the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office for its investigative work and partnership in the case, and also thanked the Orofino Police Department for assisting during the vehicle stop and arrest.

Officials said cooperation between agencies plays an important role in maintaining the safety and security of correctional facilities.
