LEWISTON, ID — A full road closure is scheduled on Snake River Avenue beginning Monday as crews continue work on the city’s 2026 Pipeline Replacement Project.
According to the City of Lewiston, Snake River Avenue will be closed to all through traffic from the Southway Bridge to the Southway Avenue roundabout starting March 23. The closure is expected to remain in place through Friday, March 27.
Detour routes will be posted along Bryden Canyon Road, Southway Avenue, and 8th Street. Access to CCI Ammunition will remain open during the project.
The expanded closure comes after crews encountered unstable soil conditions while working to rehabilitate a sanitary sewer main. The shifting soil has created safety concerns, prompting officials to widen the work zone and close both northbound and southbound lanes.
Drivers are advised to expect delays, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detour signs. Motorists should also use caution in the area and watch for construction crews.
City officials noted that underground conditions may lead to minor schedule adjustments as work continues.
