ASOTIN, WA — The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to use caution following a recent increase in traffic incidents across the county.
According to a press release issued Sunday, deputies responded to four motor vehicle collisions and two additional traffic-related offenses over a four-day period. Officials said the incidents are not connected but point to ongoing concerns about driver behavior.
The sheriff’s office noted that several of the cases involved excessive speed and distracted driving, including cell phone use. While not all crashes shared the same contributing factors, authorities said the frequency of calls underscores the risks associated with inattention and failure to adjust to road and traffic conditions.
Two of the incidents occurred on a state highway, where the sheriff’s office continues to assist with response efforts alongside the Washington State Patrol. Officials said additional staffing support at the Clarkston outpost could help improve traffic enforcement and emergency response coverage in the region.
With the summer travel season approaching — often referred to as the “100 deadliest days” between Memorial Day and Labor Day — deputies are reminding the public to take simple precautions, including avoiding distractions, reducing speed, wearing seatbelts, and maintaining safe following distances.
The sheriff’s office said deputies will continue working to keep roadways safe and asked drivers to remain alert and responsible behind the wheel.
