Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Reports Arrest Following Border Patrol Collaboration

COEUR D’ALENE, ID — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a man on June 1 following a coordinated effort with U.S. Border Patrol, citing the case as an example of the value of interagency cooperation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 90 near 4th Street. One of the vehicle’s occupants, identified as Daniel Ochoa, was found to be in the United States illegally. The vehicle had previously been stopped in Shoshone County before authorities became aware of key information.

Further communication with U.S. Border Patrol confirmed Ochoa’s immigration status. Agents responded to the scene, placed an immigration hold, and initiated an investigation. During contact with law enforcement, Ochoa reportedly admitted to entering the country unlawfully. Authorities also believe he may be connected to a homicide and other serious criminal charges from outside Idaho.

“This case is a strong example of the critical importance of communication and collaboration between our office and our Border Patrol partners,” said Sheriff Bob Norris. “By working closely with U.S. Border Patrol, we are able to share intelligence in real time and help ensure that individuals who pose a threat to our communities are identified and held accountable.”
