NEW PLYMOUTH, ID – A New Plymouth resident has earned a spot in the Idaho record books after harvesting a massive grass carp while bowfishing on the Snake River.

According to Idaho Fish and Game, Riley Farden landed the fish with a bow, and it tipped the scales at 67.65 pounds. The carp measured 49 inches long with a girth of 32.75 inches—making it the largest grass carp ever recorded in Idaho by archery.

Farden’s catch surpasses the previous archery record of 39.5 pounds, also set on the Snake River, and it exceeds the rod-and-reel grass carp record of 46.7 pounds.

Grass carp are classified as a nongame species in Idaho, meaning they can be legally harvested using archery equipment. Remarkably, Farden’s fish matched the exact weight of the state’s existing common carp archery record, also at 67.65 pounds.
