GREER, ID — The Old Greer Fire, now confirmed to be two separate but closely located fires being managed as a single incident, remained at approximately 78 acres on Sunday. Officials report no containment as of 11:30 a.m., though the fire has stayed within its current footprint.
First reported on the evening of Wednesday, June 25, the lightning-caused fire continues to burn across the river from Greer in Lewis County. Steep and rugged terrain has made containment efforts challenging, with crews focusing on constructing bulldozer lines, hand lines, and hose placements around the perimeter.
There are currently 160 personnel assigned to the fire, with support from the Idaho Department of Lands, U.S. Forest Service, Nez Perce Tribe, and Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association. Resources on scene include six engines, three bulldozers, and three water tenders. A Type-2 hand crew has been ordered to assist in suppression efforts ahead of an expected warming trend and the possibility of additional lightning next week.
Aerial resources remain available and are being used as needed to support ground crews targeting hotspots.
Old Greer Grade remains closed due to active fire operations. While no evacuations are in place, five structures continue to be threatened. Officials emphasize that containment remains the top priority.
The fire area will remain under close monitoring as crews work to strengthen lines and limit further spread.
