BOISE, ID – Despite a record-breaking 72.2 million travelers hitting the road over the Fourth of July weekend, Idaho gas prices held firm, offering a small relief to holiday drivers.
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular in Idaho today is $3.42, unchanged from the previous week and 17 cents cheaper than the same time last year. Nationally, prices dropped slightly, with the average now at $3.14 per gallon — down four cents from last week and 37 cents lower than a year ago.
Idaho now ranks seventh-highest in the nation for fuel prices, following California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Alaska. Of the 50 states, 48 experienced either declining or stable gas prices over the past week.
“Crude oil prices dipped after spiking during recent conflicts in the Middle East, and demand for gasoline has remained steady,” said Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA Idaho. “While some took to the roads in large numbers, others may have chosen to celebrate locally, balancing out overall demand.”
West Texas Intermediate crude is currently trading near $68 per barrel — about $3 more than a week ago, but still $14 less than this time last year.
Conde encouraged drivers to take advantage of fuel rewards programs, whether through credit cards, grocery stores, or other retailers. “With so much summer left, every little bit helps when it comes to saving at the pump,” he said.
