Two Semi-Trucks Hit Overpass, Forcing Closure of Southern Idaho Interstate

BLACKFOOT, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a pair of crashes that occurred Tuesday evening on Interstate 15, resulting in highway closures and damage to a bridge.

The incidents took place at approximately 5:32 p.m. on August 5, 2025, in the northbound lanes of I-15 just north of Blackfoot.

According to police, a 1986 Peterbilt semi-truck hauling two bulldozers and driven by a 36-year-old man from New Plymouth was traveling northbound when it struck the Porterville Road bridge. Moments later, a 2013 Volvo semi-truck, also hauling two bulldozers and driven by a 47-year-old man from Las Vegas, Nevada, struck the same bridge while traveling behind the first vehicle.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collisions.

As a result of the crashes, all lanes of I-15 were closed for approximately four hours. The Porterville Road bridge was also shut down until further notice while the Idaho Transportation Department assesses and repairs the damage.
