USACE’s Charbonneau Park to Receive Septic System Overhaul, Enhancing Campground Services and Sustainability

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District has awarded a $926,800 construction contract to Civil Built, LLC, to upgrade the Large Onsite Septic System (LOSS) at Charbonneau Park and Campground near Burbank, Washington.

The LOSS system supports essential campground infrastructure, including a comfort station with showers and restrooms, 54 campsites – 18 of which include sewer connections – and a boat pump-out station. The upgrade will bring the system into compliance with Washington State Department of Health regulations, while improving the system’s performance, reliability, and long-term sustainability.

Construction is slated to be completed during the campground’s off-season, between October 2025 to April 2026 to minimize disruption to visitors. Boaters may experience temporary outages of the marina pump-out station during construction. Notifications will be issued in advance of any service interruptions.

This investment ensures continued safe and sanitary conditions for thousands of annual visitors, while protecting local water resources and reducing future maintenance costs at one of the Walla Walla District’s most popular recreation areas.
