CLARKSTON, WA – A woman has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged attempt to steal more than $26,000 from another person’s retirement account by posing as the account holder online.
According to a report from the Clarkston Police Department, 39-year-old Jessica M. Johnson was arrested on October 15, 2025, and booked on charges of Identity Theft in the First Degree, Attempted Theft in the First Degree, and Criminal Impersonation in the First Degree.
Police said the case began after an employer’s investment company alerted a local employee to a suspicious withdrawal request from her retirement account. The account holder confirmed she had not made the request and suspected Johnson might be responsible.
The report states that the fraudulent request was for $26,701.27, with the funds intended to be deposited into an account at Umpqua Bank held under Johnson’s name. Investigators determined that the account used to access the victim’s retirement plan was created online using her personal information, along with a fake phone number and email address.
Through a search warrant issued to Sparklight/Cable One, investigators traced the primary IP address used in the transactions to Johnson’s residence. The IP address had allegedly been used multiple times between July and September 2025 to log in and attempt to transfer or withdraw funds.
Johnson voluntarily appeared at the Clarkston Police Department for questioning on October 15, where she was subsequently arrested. She was booked into the Asotin County Jail.
