BOISE, ID – A restitution hearing for Bryan C. Kohberger is scheduled for November 5, 2025, in Ada County’s Fourth Judicial District Court, according to court documents filed Monday. The hearing will be conducted via Zoom before Judge Steven Hippler at 10 a.m. Mountain Time.
Kohberger, who is serving four consecutive life sentences plus 10 years, has formally objected to the state’s request of additional restitution for the families of the 2022 murder victims. His attorneys filed the objection on October 7, 2025, citing the plea agreement, prior restitution payments, and his inability to pay further amounts.
The state filed its request for additional restitution on September 22, 2025, seeking $20,409.32 for Steve and Kristi Goncalves and $6,920.32 for Karen Larmie. The request included itemized receipts for travel and accommodation expenses. Kohberger’s attorneys argue that these expenses were already covered by multiple GoFundMe campaigns set up by the victims’ families.
According to court filings, Kohberger had previously stipulated to restitution related to funeral expenses and funds reimbursed through Idaho’s Crime Victim Compensation Fund, resulting in court orders totaling $28,956.88 in August 2025. His attorneys argue that the additional amounts now sought by the state do not qualify as economic loss under Idaho law and that Kohberger has no ability to pay.
The objection also notes that Kohberger waives his own attendance at the restitution hearing, requesting that he not be transported to court because his defense counsel will appear on his behalf.
