Idaho Foodbank Highlights Food Locator as SNAP Benefits Face Delay

BOISE, ID — The Idaho Foodbank is encouraging residents to use its online Food Locator tool as demand for food assistance is expected to rise with delays in federal SNAP benefits beginning November 1.

The locator, found at idahofoodbank.org under the “Get Help” tab, allows users to search by ZIP code for nearby food pantries, schools, senior centers, mobile food pantries, and other partner sites that provide groceries and meals. Each listing includes contact information and operating hours, though individuals are advised to call ahead to confirm times.

More than 130,000 Idahoans currently rely on SNAP — formerly known as food stamps — to help feed themselves and their families. During the federal government shutdown, those benefits will be temporarily delayed, potentially causing strain not only for low-income households but also for federal employees affected by stalled paychecks.

The Idaho Foodbank distributes food statewide through a network of over 400 partner organizations, with warehouses in Lewiston, Meridian, and Pocatello. In its last fiscal year, the nonprofit provided food for 21 million meals to people facing food insecurity across the state.
