PULLMAN, WA – The Pullman community’s indoor pool is now owned by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories to save the public facility.
The Pullman School Board has announced that they have finalized the sale of the aquatics center near the high school to SEL. The pool was initially built in 2000 with a to a 2.5 million dollar gift from the Schweitzer family. It has been owned by the school district and operated by the City of Pullman.
Financial issues with the pool began surfacing last year. Last March SEL Founder Dr. Ed Schweitzer and his wife Beatriz and the employee owned company stepped up with an offer to buy the aquatics center. The facility will now be called the Schweitzer Wellbeing Center to honor the family’s original gift and ongoing support. SEL and the Schweitzer’s each invested 2.5 million dollars to buy the facility.
SEL will be renovating the pool with safety upgrades and improved energy efficiency projects. The company will also be expanding the hours of the public pool facility.
SEL is a global company based in Pullman that designs and manufactures power control systems for the electricity industry worldwide.
