BOISE, ID – Bart M. Davis has been sworn in as the United States Attorney for the District of Idaho, marking his return to the role after previously serving during former President Donald Trump’s first term.
Davis was nominated by Trump on March 31, 2025, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7. He replaces the acting U.S. Attorney and will oversee federal prosecutions and civil cases across Idaho’s 44 counties.
As the state’s chief federal prosecutor, Davis leads three offices located in Boise, Coeur d’Alene, and Pocatello. His responsibilities include handling cases related to immigration, terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms, and narcotics, as well as defending the federal government in civil litigation and collecting debts owed to the United States.
Davis, who was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, and raised in Idaho Falls, practiced law focusing on commercial and regulatory matters before entering public service. He served in the Idaho State Senate for 19 years, including 15 years as majority leader, and participated on the Judiciary and Rules and State Affairs committees.
His reappointment signals a continuation of Trump’s efforts to restore several of his previous federal appointees to their former posts across the country.
Davis graduated from Brigham Young University in 1978 and from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1980.
