Idaho DMV expands abandoned vehicle portal tools for consumers

BOISE, ID — The Idaho Transportation Department is expanding consumer tools within the state’s Abandoned Vehicle Portal, aiming to improve transparency and speed up communication for Idahoans whose vehicles have been towed.

According to ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles, updates to the online portal will give vehicle owners faster access to towing information and clearer instructions on how to reclaim their vehicles.

Customers who create an online account through the Idaho DMV website can now choose to receive electronic notifications. Officials said the alerts will deliver towing notices and other DMV reminders more quickly than traditional mail, allowing users to track their vehicle status in real time.

The updated portal also requires tow companies to report towed vehicles within 24 hours. ITD said the change is intended to reduce delays between when a vehicle is removed and when the owner can locate it online, shortening wait times that previously could last days or even weeks.

State officials said the updates are part of ongoing efforts to make vehicle-related services faster, clearer, and more accessible for Idaho residents.
