WSP to Conduct Emphasis Patrols on Highways 195, 26 and I-90 for Spring Break Travel

PULLMAN, WA – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) will conduct emphasis patrols from Thursday, March 12 through Sunday, March 22 to address increased traffic and a history of collisions involving students and families traveling to and from Washington State University’s Pullman campus during Spring Break.

Troopers from District 4, covering Whitman and Adams counties, and District 6, covering Grant and Kittitas counties, will focus on speeding, distracted or impaired driving, and other violations that can lead to collisions.

“Speeding remains a major cause of collisions across the state,” WSP officials said. “District 6 investigated 44 fatality collisions in 2025 and has already investigated four fatality collisions in 2026. Troopers will closely monitor posted speed limits to prevent tragedies from occurring on our roadways.”

WSP emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for impaired driving and warned motorists to avoid distractions while operating vehicles. Officers said their primary mission is ensuring everyone arrives back at school safely.

Drivers traveling to and from WSU can expect an increased WSP presence on State Routes 26 and 195, as well as Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass.

The WSP is working alongside WSU and other state and local officials to help ensure safe and incident-free travel throughout the year.
