Colfax pursuit ends with Clarkston man arrested after multi-agency chase

COLFAX, WA — A pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended Thursday night near Colfax after deputies used spike strips to stop a pickup truck reportedly traveling more than 100 mph through Whitman County.

According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted around 8 p.m. to a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado entering the county on State Route 127 near Central Ferry. The vehicle had reportedly been involved in earlier pursuits with the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office, the Lewiston Police Department and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies located the truck and observed it continuing at a high rate of speed while being driven erratically, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly failed to yield.

The pursuit came to an end near the Colfax city limits after officers deployed spike strips. Authorities said deputies then had to forcibly remove the driver from the vehicle after he reportedly failed to comply with commands during the arrest.

The driver was identified as 25-year-old SodaPop J. Dunn of Clarkston.

Dunn was booked into the Whitman County Jail on charges including felony eluding, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest and obstruction. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday morning in Whitman County Superior Court.
