SPOKANE VALLEY, WA — A Spokane Valley man with multiple warrants was arrested Tuesday afternoon after attempting to flee law enforcement and later causing a lengthy delay during his detention and medical evaluation, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on May 20, when a deputy conducting a community policing patrol in the 7200 block of E. Trent Avenue identified a vehicle belonging to 47-year-old Brian E. Hohman, who had two active arrest warrants, a suspended driver’s license, and a valid domestic violence no contact order issued by the courts.
Upon attempting contact, the deputy activated emergency lights and ordered Hohman to remain in the vehicle. Hohman refused and fled on foot through a nearby motel complex. The deputy initiated a foot pursuit and issued commands and use-of-force warnings. Hohman ultimately surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.
Deputies later confirmed that Hohman was in violation of the no contact order, as the protected person was reportedly staying at the motel where Hohman had been seen multiple times.

While being transported to jail, Hohman claimed he had ingested a large amount of fentanyl. At the jail, medical staff expressed concern over the claim, prompting a transport to the hospital for further evaluation.
During the hospital stay, Hohman reportedly became uncooperative, claimed to have ingested more drugs, and resisted staff and deputies by attempting to lie on the floor and refusing to comply with instructions. After several hours, he was medically cleared for booking.
Hohman was booked into the Spokane County Jail at approximately 8:50 p.m. on new charges of violation of a court-issued no contact order and obstructing law enforcement, along with his outstanding warrants for fourth-degree assault, third-degree malicious mischief (domestic violence), and a civil child support bench warrant.
