Odor From Lewiston Airport Prompts Calls to 911

LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport is applying a seal coat to its runways, creating an odor that some residents have described as similar to petroleum products, according to a release from the City of Lewiston.

Officials said the smell may be noticeable in surrounding areas but is not a cause for concern.

The city reported that the 911 dispatch center has received a high volume of calls regarding the odor. Police and fire personnel have investigated and confirmed the source is the runway coating being applied at the airport.
