Four-Lane Section of US-95 South of Moscow to Fully Open Sunday

MOSCOW, ID — Drivers will soon be able to travel the entire six-mile stretch of the newly expanded four-lane section of U.S. Highway 95 between Reisenauer Hill and Moscow. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced the roadway will fully open to traffic on Sunday.

Until now, motorists had access only to the first five miles, which opened in early July while crews completed construction on the Thorn Creek Bridge. With the bridge now finished, drivers can expect minimal delays through the area. Remaining work will continue over the next several weeks, including installation of permanent barriers, signage, delineators, and rumble strips.

The nearly $90 million realignment project began in 2022 to shift the former two-lane highway eastward and expand it to four lanes. According to ITD, the new route is designed to improve safety and efficiency with a flatter grade, fewer curves, and better access control. Funding came in part from Governor Brad Little’s Leading Idaho program.

“We are honored and pleased to provide this much-needed expansion to the region,” said District Engineer Doral Hoff. “Completing this last portion between Lewiston and Moscow gives drivers a safer and more efficient route.”

ITD’s efforts to expand U.S. 95 to four lanes between the top of Lewiston Hill and Moscow began in 1999. Most sections were completed in the early 2000s, making this six-mile segment the final piece of the long-term project.
