ALMOTA, WA – Vehicle access to the Port of Almota and its grain terminal on the Lower Snake River in Whitman County will be closed for several months starting next week.
The Washington State Department of Transportation is going to rebuild the State Route 194 bridge that accesses the river site. The bridge deck over
Almota Creek started to develop a hole three years ago. Efforts to repair the short bridge have failed leading WSDPT to decide to rebuild the span.
Starting this coming Monday February 9th the bridge to Almota will be closed. The span and vehicle traffic access to the grain terminal are scheduled to reopen in June. Crews will demolish the old bridge except for the abutments and rebuild the span. The new bridge will 1.3 million dollars.
This SR194 bridge closure to Almota doesn’t impact traffic to nearby Boyer Park just below Lower Granite Dam South of Colfax.
