MOSCOW, ID – A 47-year-old Potlatch woman has been arrested for allegedly trafficking fentanyl after a man died of an apparent overdose inside her apartment.
The case began early Friday morning when the Potlatch Volunteer Fire Department and Latah County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to an overdose at the White Pine Manor. Court documents show that deputies began investigating the suspicious death and allegedly found drug paraphernalia inside the unit occupied by Heather Wehkoja.
Deputies used a warrant to search Wehkoja’s storage closest where they reportedly found several grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine. Wehkoja told deputies that the drugs belonged to the man who died. She also stated to deputies that she used Narcan on the man when she found him unresponsive.
The court documents allege that Wehkoja told deputies that she removed the drugs from her apartment before calling a friend for more Narcan. Deputies believe Wehkoja was under the influence of narcotics when they arrived on scene.
Wehkoja made her first appearance on a felony fentanyl trafficking count Tuesday morning in Latah County Second District Court. She is set to be back in court next month.
During the search of the apartment deputies found some dynamite and had to call in the Spokane bomb squad to safely dispose of the device.
