Wildland Fire Along Highway 12 Contained Near Mile Marker 25

LENORE, ID — A wildland fire sparked Sunday morning near mile marker 25 on U.S. Highway 12, prompting a multi-agency response from local and state fire crews.

According to Nez Perce County Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the fire at about 10:30 a.m. The blaze reportedly started along the highway before spreading uphill into nearby timber.

Firefighters from Lapwai Volunteer Fire Department, Big Canyon Fire District, Arrow Junction Fire District, the Idaho Department of Lands and the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office assisted with suppression efforts.

Officials said the fire was brought under control in about an hour. No injuries were reported.

After containment, the fire was turned over to the Idaho Department of Lands for management. Officials thanked responding agencies for their assistance and coordination during the incident.
