OROFINO, ID — Clearwater County Sheriff Chris Goetz announced in a Facebook post that he will retire June 30 after 28 years with the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, including more than 17 years as sheriff.

Goetz joined the sheriff’s office in 1998 as the Weippe resident deputy and later served as a patrol deputy, patrol corporal, narcotics detective, patrol sergeant and chief deputy before being elected sheriff in 2008. He is currently serving his fifth four-year term.

According to the post, Goetz also held leadership roles with the Idaho Sheriff’s Association, Idaho Association of Counties and Western States Sheriff’s Association during his career.

Outside law enforcement, Goetz has served as assistant fire chief for the Sunnyside Rural Fire District and has remained active in local 4-H and rodeo organizations.
