LEWISTON, ID — The City of Lewiston has released an update outlining completed and planned projects funded through its Stormwater Drainage System Utility for fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
According to the city, the utility was established in October 2023, with fees first assessed in January 2024. Revenue from the program has been used to support stormwater training, purchase inspection equipment, and complete infrastructure improvements while helping the city meet requirements under its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit .
During fiscal year 2025, the city completed multiple stormwater projects across Lewiston, including storm line replacements, catch basin repairs, sinkhole mitigation, culvert extensions, sidewalk repairs, and storm system abandonments using cementitious density fill to prevent future roadway failures. The city also purchased a new pole camera system to improve storm system inspections .
Looking ahead to fiscal year 2026, planned and ongoing projects include the design and reconstruction of storm systems in areas with recurring flooding, mainline storm failures, and sinkhole concerns, as well as the design of a permanent decant facility to better manage materials from street sweeping and stormwater maintenance operations .
City officials say the projects are aimed at reducing flooding, improving roadway safety, and addressing aging stormwater infrastructure throughout Lewiston.
