KAMIAH, ID — Kamiah Fire Rescue responded to two separate fires Monday, including a chicken coop fire that threatened a nearby home and a fire involving a train trestle bridge structural member.

According to Kamiah Fire Rescue EMS, crews were already handling a medical transport to Clearwater Valley Hospital when firefighters were dispatched to a chicken coop fire involving a propane tank. The fire also threatened a nearby residence.

Kamiah Fire Rescue said Engine 21, Brush 25 and Command 20 quickly stopped the fire from spreading.

Later in the day, firefighters responded to a fire at a train trestle bridge. Officials said the fire, which remains under investigation, damaged one of the bridge’s structural members and involved heavy timber driftwood burning beneath the bridge.

Crews from Kamiah Fire Rescue and the Idaho Department of Lands used a portable pump with the river as a water source to extinguish the fire.

Responding agencies included Engine 21, Brush 25, Command 20 and Idaho Department of Lands Engine 32.

In a statement, Fire Chief Billy thanked local businesses for allowing volunteer firefighters to leave work to respond to emergencies. The department also thanked Simmons Sanitation and CH Farm and Ranch for assisting crews during the incidents.
