Kamiah Stop for Tailgating Ends in Meth Arrest Thanks to K9 Rip

KAMIAH, ID – A traffic stop near Kamiah early Thursday morning led to the arrest of a woman for felony methamphetamine possession, according to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:50 a.m. on July 17, an Idaho County deputy conducting a Highway Safety patrol on U.S. Highway 12 near milepost 68 observed a white minivan crossing the center line and following another vehicle too closely. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle turned onto Cedar Mills Road before coming to a stop.

A second deputy arrived on scene to assist. K9 Rip was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old JoEllen Barnes, was arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Law enforcement officials remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
